📖 Welcome to 5 in 5 in 5
5 in 5 in 5 is a new word puzzle game inspired by a classic German parlor game called Gefüllte Kalbsbrust (which means "Stuffed Breast of Veal").
In the original pen-and-paper game, players write a word down the left side of a page, spell it backwards up the right side, and then race to "stuff" letters into the middle to form valid words.
We took that simple but compelling concept, added a huge digital dictionary, and built two unique ways to test your brain!
🧠 Core Board Mechanics
Fill in the Grid: The first and last letters of every row are locked in place. Every guess you type must be a real 5-letter dictionary word utilizing those outer letters.
Smart Typing: As you type, the game automatically highlights the active row matching your starting letter so you can see your word coming together in real time.
Linked Rows: Sometimes, multiple rows share the same starting and ending letters. Finding a valid word counts for both rows simultaneously, giving you double points.
Disabled Rows: If a row is grayed out, it means no valid 5-letter words exist in the dictionary for that specific letter combination. They are automatically turned off so you do not waste your time guessing.
Magic Ghost Hints: Every correct guess helps you solve the rest of the board! When you find a valid word, its middle letters will flash across other rows as faded Ghost Hints if they fit in those exact same spots.
💰 Bounty Badges (Base Points)
Not all rows are created equal! Every row features a colored badge showing how many base points words are worth based on difficulty:
Green Badges: Easy rows with lots of common word options.
Orange Badges: Medium rows that require a bit more thought.
Red Badges: Hard rows with very few solutions.
Amethyst Rows: Super rare jackpot rows that contain zero everyday words.
⚡ Speed Mode
The Arcade Sprint: A thrilling 5-minute race against the clock. Type quickly, build up your momentum, and get the highest score possible before time runs out.
Speed Multipliers: Find 3 words quickly (less than 15 seconds apart) to catch fire! While your streak is alive, you earn a 2x point multiplier. Waiting over 20 seconds or guessing an invalid word puts your fire out.
Time Extensions: Spotting a rare, unusual vocabulary word rewards you with +15 seconds on the clock to keep your run alive.
🧘 Zen Mode
The Completionist Puzzle: A relaxing brain workout with no timer and no rush. Take your time to discover every standard word hidden on the board.
Row Clear Bounties: Hit a row's target word quota to turn it shiny Gold and pocket a massive +500 point bonus! Every valid word you find (common or rare) ticks your counter up.
Rare Words & Extra Credit: Discovering advanced vocabulary words grants an instant +50 point bonus and spawns a special 🔮 tracker! Because they count toward your quota, finding rare words lets you achieve Gold rows without needing to guess every single common word.
🕵️ Expert Strategy
Follow the Ghosts: If you hit a wall on a difficult row, don't stare at it! Go find a few common words in an easier green row. The hints you reveal will usually give you the missing puzzle pieces you need to conquer the harder sections.
Hunt Big Badges First: Check the row badges as soon as the game starts. Prioritize Red or Amethyst rows early on to land massive point boosts right out of the gate.
